Pg. 184 “Janie held his head tightly to her breast and wept and thanked him wordlessly for giving her the chance for loving service. She had to hug him tight for soon he would be gone, and she had to tell him for the last time.”
Janie had no choice but to kill Tea Cake. It was either her life or his. So when she shouts him she begins to cry with sadness. She held him in her arm and thanks him one last time for showing her true love. She had held him tight with comfort before he was gone.
Pg. 185 “She felt them putting her with dirty thoughts. They were there with their tongues cocked loaded, the only real weapon left to weak folks.”
The crowded black people prepared to answer whether Janie should or should not go to jail. They were all in the back of the court room and were against Janie, they wanted her to go to jail. They were all mad about what she had done to Tea Cake. They didn’t care if it was an accident or not. The black folks all had negative thoughts that they wanted to say to her, but couldn’t.
