Pg. 89 “Her Nanny had taken the biggest thing God ever made, the horizon- for no matter how far a person can go the horizon is still way beyond you – and pinched it in to such a little bit of a thing.”
Nanny was someone who didn’t really care about love or dreams. She crushed Janie dreams about true love and made them mean nothing to her. Nanny made her be with someone who would protect her. It didn’t matter if they loved each other or not. Janie always hated her grandmother for the way she was. She discovered that Nanny was wrong about love.
Pg. 93 “Ah loves dis freedom; sh –sh –sh! Don’t let nobody hear you say dat Janie.”
Janie feels much freer now that Jody is dead. She no longer is told what to do, say, or how to act in front of people. Janie has the freedom to do as she pleases. She don’t care who think she didn’t care about Jody long as she knows it.
