Hellow, I am Moses Grandy. I was born a slave in Camden County, North California in 1786. I was my mothers youngest child. At least eight of my brothers and sisters had been sold to other slave owners by my master Bill Grandy. My mother would hide us in the woods when we were getting ready to be sold. Other masters hired me, but I was still owned by Bill Grandy. Some masters provided me with plenty of food and clothing, but with most of my masters I had starved half to death.
In order to get something to eat I had to work extemely hard. Later through my life I married a slave owned by Enoch Sawyer. She was then sold to another slave owner and I never saw her again after that. He wouldn't even let me get close to her or touch her to say good bye, but I gave her the little money I had in the back of my pocket. Later in my life when I was able to earn enough money to buy my freedom three times. The first two times it was stolen from me. Once I was freed I was able to buy fredom for my wife and some of my relatives.
